Govt House Aims To Eliminate Single-Use Plastic
Government House announced that it will “aim to eliminate single-use plastic from all events at the House and in its day-to-day operations.”
The most common examples of single use plastics are cold drinks bottles, packaging and, for certain events, plastic cups, cutlery and straws, Government House said.
Governor John Rankin said “We are all increasingly aware of the risks to our environment from throw-away, non-biodegradable plastics which foul the waters around Bermuda and endanger our wildlife.
“If we all act together we can make a difference and Government House will be encouraging its suppliers themselves to take steps to reduce unnecessary use of plastics. We are also looking at ways to increase our recycling of waste.”

Congrats to Govt house for this decision!! Now if only we can have people to bring their own bags when they shop or refuse plastic bags and if the hotels can switch to bio degradable cups this would be such a great development for our environment above an d below water
Everyday we getting a little bit better.
It’s up to getting out their as a consumer and telling the businesses why they should be doing better.
Are you serious ?
It’s cheaper with plastic.
Cost more for bio et al.
Follow the money.
Bravo guys! This is brilliant and setting an example for our children.
There is always room for improvement but I am noticing more and more people remembering to take their reusable bags grocery shopping. Still too many plastic cups, take-out containers, utensils, straws which means that we still have work to do.
It would be nice to see Government House downsize to a 3 bedroom on a small piece of land.
What a fine example. May schools and restaurants follow the lead.
Time for mandatory recycling.

Cudos.
However …mandatory recycling is not the answer…bring in only products and groceries that package responsibly.
